The Process

I create my glass pieces by inserting cut glass into grooved lead came strips or by wrapping the glass pieces with leaded copper foil, then I solder the joints. The method I choose depends on the image I am working with.

I am a studio artist.

I sell my pieces from a shop in the Liberty Building, Pottery Place Plus Artisan’s Cooperative in Spokane, Washington and Etsy online; SujuGlassArt.

What I Create

I am a decorative stained-glass artist working with lead came and copper foil. I design pieces up to about 20 inches.

I create candle surrounds, light boxes, suncatchers, nightlights, ornaments, tea lights, magnets, business card holders, tabletop art, glass panels in all sizes up to 20″ (my glass panels are usually hung as overlays on windows or displayed as glass art on the wall or tabletop).

Glass Choice:

I use a variety of glass from many different companies which include Bullseye, Youghiogheny, Wissmach, Oceanside, Kokomo.

I am a member of Pottery Place Plus an artisans’ cooperative in the Liberty Building in downtown Spokane. Pottery Place has been active for over 40 years. I display my glass pieces there and contribute shared time in the shop. I also help with the Liberty Gallery located above Pottery Place.

Where I sell?

I mainly sell out of Pottery Place Plus. But I also show my work occasionally at different venues throughout Spokane and I have an online Etsy shop: SujuGlassArt where I sell overflow products.

Why do I have a size restriction on pieces?

I try to keep my pieces 20″ or below. Anything larger becomes heavy and more cumbersome to make needing more structural reinforcement. I am not an architectural stained-glass artisan. I do not insert glass pieces into existing home/business windowpanes.

Do I take commissioned work?

I am not taking commissioned work, but maybe in the future I will reconsider. Commissioned work takes more time because I have to work directly with a client, time I currently do not have.

How do I decide on pricing?

My prices usually range from $6 – $1200. I charge according to size, number of cuts, whether it is made with lead came strips or copper foil, type of glass used and what I consider to be the value of the design itself.

What glass do I use the most?

Bullseye and Youghiogheny are two of my favorite glass companies. But I also like Kokomo’s cathedral and streakies, Oceanside/Spectrum’s waterglass, and Wissmach has a variety of beautiful affordable glass.
